Banff Wedding in Sepia
Alison and Austin's wedding in Banff, Alberta, Canada was, not surprisingly, spectacular. Even with the weather being a bit cool and windy, the scenery in Banff is nothing short of world class. Their wedding ceremony was the second wedding ceremony I've had the privilege of photographing at the Tunnel Mountain Reservoir. The location is essentially a flat open field part way up tunnel mountain, that offers gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, in particular, Mount Rundle, which serves as a centre piece for the ceremonies backdrop. This location is a wedding photographers dream. Regardless of what the focus of a particular shot is, the background is filled with the Canadian Rockies.
The other great thing about shooting a wedding in Banff is all of the amazing locations within 10 minutes of the town that you can easily access with the bride and groom. I was second shooting this wedding for Jesse Tamayo, so I got to happily tag along for the bride and groom photos up Mount Norqway where I captured one of my favourite wedding photos, which is the photo directly under this article. I had to skip out of the Vermillion Lakes portion of the bride and groom shots in order to get some photos of the reception venue before it filled with guests.
Alison and Austin's reception was at Park Distillery on Banff Avenue. Having been to that venue multiple times for dinner, I wasn't at all surprised at how well the venue worked for the reception. The restaurant has an atmosphere that perfectly captures the whole feel of Banff. The upstairs section that was used for the reception had plenty of space for all of the wedding guests, as well as it's own private bar, a beautiful stone fire place, a massive balcony overlooking Banff Avenue, and of course, delicious food and drinks. Aside from my own personal affection for Park Distillery, the upstairs venue space for this wedding had one key feature that no other venue could possibly compete with for Alison and Austin. In the corner of the upstairs venue space is the exact spot where Alison and Austin had their first date.
